This is Ma’Wendy our lovely seamstress.

She stared working in the fashion industry in 2001,for a private company called Shereen Anderson,in August 2011,ten years later she joined the LCA family.

Her job is to check the fabric pieces she gets from pattern cutter Ma’Wendy,for any mistakes that could’ve been made to get it fixed before sewing anything.Then she checks the style of the garment,if there’s any handwork that needs to be done.”If I ,don’t understand the style I check the pattern to make sure that the finished garment looks perfect” she said.

Her job requires basic skills like knowing the hemline,where to put the zip if there is one and more importantly,darts.

She loves her job for the experience she gains amongst other things . “I like seeing celebrities like Anele who i only got to see on tv before”

“I Like the age difference between all of us,we respect each other but we also have fun”

She shares the same sentiments as Ma’Winnie about working with Anisa and went on to add “she is very easy to talk to and is very understanding”

We call her Ma’Winne and she is our Pattern Cutter.

Ma’Winne started working in the fashion industry in the 80’s and joined the L.C.A Team in May this year(2012).

Her job is to cut fabric using a pattern piece as a guide, mark it and fuse it.She checks for any damages on the fabric before cutting it and makes sure that there is enough fabric for the desired style.

Ma’Winnie said, “You need to know what a grain line is,the width of the fabric and what type of material it is to do this job,textiles are very important”

When discussing what she likes about her job Ma’Winnie had this to say,”You gain a lot of experience from cutting different patterns and I meet different people…I get along very well with all my collegues,when one encounters difficulty in his/her deprtment we are always available to help eachother”.

Unlike any interview,we had to ask the staff what it’s like working with Anisa. Ma’Winne said “We share alot with her and she is very clear about what she wants”.

… One of the hardest working young women i know. Ofcourse there will be some sisterly love undertone but my girl Araffa inspires me some much. The Mpungwe girls (Araffa, Alma and Myself) were brought up to always work hard and not take short cuts and i can safely say Farra you hold youself together so well. Keep working hard and like the Knowles, one day we’ll make our mark.

and to end my evening blogging (i’m the worst blogger in the world but bare with me) … i am so excited to be judging for the Elle New Rising star and i wish all the finalists the best of luck. It was me on that other side 4 years ago (08 winner) like a nervous wreck, second guessing myself to a pulp. If any of you finalists are reading this i’ll give you a piece of advise my mama gave me back then …

“Anisa when you see your clothes amongst the others of course you’re going to feel insecure and that the others are better. Remember you have over analysed your work to heaven and back. Be proud that you were brave enough to enter this competition, never stop believing in yourself, work hard and never be apologetic about it!”

Let’s just say after that i was all good, it didn’t matter whether i won or lost, point was i worked my toosh off.

Sindiso, Elli, Jane, Ruan,Tamara, Anmari, Gabrielle, Sheena I cannot wait for South Africa to see how amazing you all are. Eeeeeeeeee!!!!

I’m working with one of the coolest Interior designer in Johannesburg. Andrea Kleinloog owner of Anatomy Design has made my experience in opening a shop, a very smooth one. Many times i thought i was going to loose my mind with the amount of work i had to do but she made it so better. Super organised and her past experiences show when she deals with any setbacks! Thank you Andrea.

Mercedes Benz Joburg Fashion Week 2012 - March

So we were super busy during March with Mercedes Benz Joburg Fashion Week. The show was produced Jan Malan a well known South African show producer. What was exciting this year was that we had two well known South African radio personalities,Poppy Ntshongwana and Anele Mdoda open and close the show and to top it all Mrs Mbeki, wife to the former South African President, Thabo Mbeki graced the front row, complimenting it by wearing an LCA Afro50 dress.

The show was about showing off your confidence in figure hugging maxi dresses and african printed true waist skirts and punchy cropped jackets. The general feel of the show was more mature , something we hadn’t done properly before.

What seemed to steal the show, however, were the detachable collars with twin LCA laser brooches.

Needless to say it was a success. Most people who attended the show (over 600 guests) were LCA customers, so you can image the pressure and excitement backstage!!
